An event every week that begins at 10:00am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until April 27, 2019
Art at the Cave welcomes sculptor and furniture maker Chuck Moffit for a site-specific exhibition of contemporary work this April. Subverting the Imagined Moment opens on First Friday, April 5th with a reception from 6-9pm. On April 10th at 4pm Art at the Cave will host an Open House as part of Design Week Portland, where Moffit will offer a presentation followed by a Q&A. There is no charge for attendance to the gallery or events.
Subverting the Imagined Moment straddles the conventional definitions of fine and decorative art. Inspired in equal parts by the rugged tactility of artist Richard Serra and the transgressive purposefulness of fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, Moffit’s designs challenge conventional assumptions of gender, history, and materials. As Moffit shares, “envisioned moments help to create new work. This show will subvert my imagined moment. Pushing it into a future. Allowing the works to be arranged and then disordered in the gallery multiple times.”
